Vertical A/C Install
There are many condos and apartments throughout Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and Swift Current that have vertical style room air conditioners. Approximately 10 years ago, all manufacturers of vertical a/c units increased their height by about 1 inch. As a result, the new size vertical a/c’s no longer fit in the old sleeves.
In order to replace the old A/C with a new one, the original sleeve needs to be removed. This can be done without any damage to the siding, drywall, or opening.
Once the old sleeve is removed, a new Vertical Casement A/C can be installed in the opening, which is slightly larger than the old sleeve, and now big enough to fit the new a/c. These casement air conditioners do not require a sleeve, as they are already essentially built into one. The installer only needs to properly seal the unit on the exterior and interior sides of the wall.
Here is the new unit, properly sealed to the wall opening with matching caulking.
Lastly, the unit is insulated and sealed with expanding foam insulation, and the new air conditioner is bordered with new casing which is in turn sealed up with caulking.
